SW Florida women come together virtually for Women's March of Fort Myers

These people were celebrating not only a new President but the first-ever female Vice President.
The march was not held in the streets this year because of COVID-19 but they were still able to gather virtually.
They spoke about a range of topics, from $15-per-hour minimum wage to racial justice to affordable housing and childcare.
Kathy Mayo is the Vice President of the Women’s March of Fort Myers.
“We want to see access to all types of care and we want all of those options available to people,” said Mayo. “Everybody has a different situation in life and we want that to be recognized, we don’t want it to be legislated by a man in a suit and you know three counties away.” ....

“Not everything that is faced can be changed; but nothing can be changed until it is faced.” This quote by James Baldwin was part of the inspiration for a new project in the Copper Country. It’s called FACE (Facing Addiction through Community Engagement), and will focus on supporting loved ones of those dealing with addiction. Recovery from addiction (also known as Substance Use Disorder or SUD) can often overlook the “affected others” such as spouses, parents, and children of the person with SUD. The FACE project aims to change this.
Project Director Gail Ploe said, “For every person with a substance use disorder, there are so many affected others – children, partners, parents, family and friends – who suffer right along with them. Unfortunately, they don’t always get the support and services they need. This project will not only help families, it will help people with SUD because family involvement is such an important part of recovery ....

Participating in charity fundraisers during the holiday season has become a long-standing tradition with the Support Team Members at the Proforma Worldwide Support Centers in Cleveland, Ohio, and Tampa, Fla. Each year team members pull together to collect an abundance of donations for children and families in the local area and to help spread holiday cheer to local residents. This year, the Cleveland Support Center donated over 700 items to Providence House of Cleveland. In addition, both Support Centers in Cleveland and Tampa identified local nursing homes to send holiday greeting cards and words of good cheer to residents who are shut-in and alone this holiday season due to the Covid-19 pandemic. ....
