Jeff Wilke, the former CEO of Amazon Worldwide Consumer, has joined Scale AI as advisor to the CEO. Founded in 2016, the San Francisco startup helps companies develop and manage their AI and machine learning systems. Customers include Toyota, Samsung, the DoD, PayPal, and Etsy. It announced Wilke’s new role along with a $325 million Series E investment round co-led by Dragoneer, Greenoaks Capital, and Tiger Global. ....

Cases of Flesh-Eating Ulcers Spreading in Australia, Experts Baffled

The bacteria causes a gangrenous rash that can keep patients in the hospital for months.
Scientists aren t sure how the infection spreads, but possums and mosquitoes may be involved.
A dangerous flesh-eating bacteria known as Buruli ulcer is infecting Australians at unusually high rates.
The infection typically starts with redness and inflammation that could be written off as an insect bite. Within days, the bacteria can turn flesh gangrenous, sometimes eating away at flesh until it reaches bone.
Buruli ulcer has been reported in 33 countries including Australia, Livia Albeck-Ripka wrote for the New York Times. Australia had the third-highest rates of the disease after Ghana and Nigeria in 2018. ....
