Kathy Harper- Hall has refuted comments made by former national boxing champion Curtis Miller insinuating that she said professionals and amateurs should not compete against each other.
Secretary of the Barbados Boxing Association (BBA), Harper-Hall made it abundantly clear that the comment made by Miller was not true and that it was neither her belief nor that of the association.
During a recent interview with
Barbados TODAY just before the BBA election, Miller was quoted as saying: “They don’t want nobody to tell them anything. When we were talking about bringing some of the amateurs on to the professional card, you had Ms. Harper- Hall saying you should not have an amateur on a professional card. I don’t know if she thinks this is netball.”

Criticisms levelled at current Barbados Boxing Association (BBA) secretary Kathy Harper-Hall are unjustified, says long-standing BBA member Oliver Marshall. Leading up to and during the recent BBA annual general meeting and elections, Harper-Hall was heavily criticised for not wanting to step down at age 83.
However, Marshall in defence of Harper-Hall, pointed to the fact that despite her age, she gives her all towards the sport and he made it clear that he did not see a replacement at this point.
“I agree with the fact that she is old, the woman is 83. So, to say she is old is just repeating itself. But as far as her contribution to the association is concerned, I don’t see a replacement at this point,” Marshall said.

Newly elected Barbados Boxing Association (BBA) president Dr Melissa Branford-Jones has acknowledged that the sport needs revival and said the new executive will pull together as many resources as possible to get the job done.
Branford-Jones was voted in as the seventh president of the BBA and the second woman to hold that position with 34 votes. Former Commonwealth Games bronze medallist and Caribbean champion Junior Greenidge accounted for 24 votes while Guyanese businessman Gardel Roberts tallied two votes.
Shortly after securing victory yesterday afternoon at the Garfield Sobers Sports Complex, Branford-Jones said to rebrand boxing the BBA will look at areas such as strengthening its membership and educating the public more about boxing.
Members of the Barbados Boxing Association (BBA) have placed their confidence in Dr Melissa Branford-Jones to run the affairs of boxing in this country.
The newly elected Branford-Jones became the seventh president of the BBA with 34 votes when the annual general meeting and elections were held Sunday afternoon at the Sir Garfield Sobers Gymnasium.
Branford-Jones is the second woman ever to hold the position and also the second doctor.
What was initially a five-person race was reduced to just three candidates after past president Joyce Bowen withdrew her bid for the top position along with new member Alonzo Welton.
That left the door open for former national volleyball player Branford-Jones to be elected in what was deemed as one of the most exciting elections in the BBA’s history.
