A fond farewell to a beloved friend - Daily Advocate

A fond farewell to a beloved friend
By Kathy Ayette - St. Mary’s School News
In my class the “s word” has been banned. No, it not that word…snow. You know that the season for snow should really be over when first and second graders groan to see it falling. I don’t know about you, but frankly I prefer my snow in January, not April. Like my students, I am more than ready for shorts and flip-flops!
Staff and students returned from Easter break on April 6. I am very impressed with the self control of my class. Every morning I have a question of the day as part of our daily math meeting. The children’s answers are placed on the graph. In the Catholic Church this week is the third week of Easter, so one of the daily questions was “Do you have any Easter candy left?” I was surprised to discover that the majority of them did have candy left from Easter. ....

A short and snowy February - Daily Advocate

A short and snowy February

(I like killing the proverbial two birds with one stone.) The extra “unhearted” flakes were glued on black paper. I hung our snowflakes from the ceiling and the pictures in the hall. Bingo! We have 10 inches of snow. (I apolo ....

The return to classes - Daily Advocate

The return to classes
By Kathy Ayette - St. Mary’s School News
I was dating my weekly newsletter to parents last Friday and noticed that January was about half over. Today as I write we are well on our way to February. Jan. 22 was not only the last day of the second quarter, but also the last day of the first semester. The school year is half finished! You would think that after all the years I have taught I would have ceased being amazed at the rapidity of the school year. But every year I find myself wondering what became of the previous month. ....
