The availability of an approved COVID-19 vaccine will be a game-changer in our efforts to fight and wipe out this widespread disease. As the Rhode Island long-term care ombudsman, I know all too well the devastating and heartbreaking impact that this pandemic has had on our nursing home residents, their families and those who care for them. That is why I am sending a fervent plea to our direct-care staff workers entrusted with resident care to encourage residents to receive the vaccine and for family members and guardians of residents who can no longer make decisions for themselves to consent to residents receiving the COVID-19 vaccine. ....
