For the third day in a row Thursday, San Antonio set new records for the number of people hospitalized with COVID-19 and for the number of people newly admitted to city hospitals to be treated for the disease caused by the coronavirus.
City and county officials for weeks have been warning that local hospitals will soon become overwhelmed if hospitalizations continue to increase at the current rate. Only 10 percent of the city’s hospital beds are still available for new patients. ....

San Antonio’s total of coronavirus cases has surpassed 110,000 since March, and the city is on the verge of new business restrictions as hospitals admit a growing number of patients with COVID-19.
After three days of no coronavirus updates because of Christmas, city officials Sunday reported 4,426 new infections since Wednesday and 1,000 people in local hospitals, up from 945. ....
