Garden parties a gogo
Since Monday 29 March we are now finally able to meet our friends and families outside, as long as we still stay local (in our village, town or city neighbourhood as much as possible). Groups of six people are therefore allowed to gather outside, or two households, even if they come to more than six (with a support bubble counting as one household). The best bit is that we can meet in each other’s gardens again. So we’re looking at the coolest picnic sets and picnic hampers to order from restaurants, as well as the secret gardens and parks we can finally hang out in.

‘My brother and his girlfriend are planning on erecting an open teepee on their farm, and bringing out the bunting and battered old dining table and chairs for a few careful, socially distanced celebratory picnics and ciders outdoors. We won’t even care if it’s rainy and cold (though they’ll have some blankets to hand just in case).’
Sophie Knight, digital picture editor One of the lesser-known bars in Shoreditch, Ninetyeight is found at the bottom of a hidden spiral staircase on busy Curtain Road. Sit around a grand piano, in a space covered in papier-mâché or under bright neon in the Tiki Tiki room. The whole place is kitted out with crazy kitsch memorabilia brought back from the owner s travels: a wall of Barbies and dinosaurs, a rocking horse that doubles up as a seat, vintage furniture that s been given a spray-paint revamp. Innovative cocktails priced at £10 are served up in treasure chests or old perfume bottles, and even set on fire – anything goes.
