“Our Takes”: Princess Elizabeth students learn the ins and outs of opinion writing 19 January 2021 Reading time: 1 min (Photo : Courtesy) The students in Kassandra Norrie’s Grade 6 class at Princess Elizabeth Elementary School in Magog stepped into the world of local journalism on Tuesday morning without ever having to leave their classroom. As part of an ongoing project by The Record to offer media literacy and journalism workshops in local elementary and high schools, the students got the opportunity to go on a “virtual tour” of the paper, put together by Friday Files contributor Katherine Owen, and also speak with Associate Editor Gordon Lambie about how facts and opinions are presented in a daily newspaper. They then used what they learned to write six “my take” style mini editorials in small groups that can be found on page six of Wednesday’s paper. ....
