Russian Journalist Soloviev Declared Persona Non Grata in Latvia

RIGA/MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 18th February, 2021) Latvian Foreign Minister Edgars Rinkevics announced on Thursday that Russian journalist Vladimir Soloviev was declared persona non grata in the country, and Soloviev noted he would discuss with his lawyers to file a lawsuit over the entry ban.
I made a decision to add Russian citizen extruding to the list of persons regarded as undesirable by the Republic of Latvia. Latvia does not accept glorification of Nazism in any form, Rinkevics wrote on Twitter.
Earlier this week, Soloviev was widely criticized by Russianmedia for calling Adolf Hitler a very brave man during his tv show broadcast by Rossiya 1. The journalist claims that his words were taken out of context. Critics quote only part of his speech, which distorts the meaning of his point of view. ....

RIGA (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 15th February, 2021) Latvia s ban of the Russian RTR-Planeta (Rossiya-RTR) tv channel has come into force and it is no longer available on cable TV in the country, a Sputnik correspondent reports.
A message pops up on screen when RTR-Planeta is selected on the Riga Balticom cable TV provider.
By the decision of the National Electronic Mass Media Council, the rebroadcast of Rossiya RTR in Latvia was suspended for 1 year. From 16.02.2021 it will be replaced by the 1+2 TV channel, the message reads. ....

OREANDA-NEWS. The Latvian National Council for Electronic Media (NEPLP) on Tuesday banned the retransmission of 16 more Russian-language TV channels in the country, including REN TV Baltic and NTV Mir Baltic. This decision was announced on Twitter by the chairman of the council Ivars Abolins.
The ban was imposed on the channels REN TV Baltic, NTV Mir Baltic, Karusel International, NTV Serial, NTV Style, NTV Pravo, Kinomiks, Nashe Novoe Kino, Rodnoe Kino, Indian Kino , Kinokomediya , Kinoseriya , KVN TV , Kitchen TV , Box TV , HD Life.
Explaining the move to ban Russian TV channels again, Abolins wrote: In order to protect the Latvian information space, NEPLP will be strengthened to check all programs in the register of relayed programs and if it detects similar cases, it will act accordingly. ....

Latvia has banned the rebroadcasting of 16 Russian channels, including REN TV Baltic, NTV Mir Baltic, Karusel International, NTV Serial, NTV Style, NTV Right, Kinomix, Our New Cinema, Native Cinema, Cinema Comedy, Cinema, KVN TV, Kitchen TV, Box TV and HD Life.
The newspaper Delfi reports, citing the chairman of the National Council of Electronic Media (NEPLP) Ivars Abolins, that the council had not found an official representative of these channels in Latvia who could agree to their distribution.
The previous representative, Tem LV, said that, since February 1, the company has not been eligible for broadcasting these channels. Tem LV is part of Baltijas Mediju Alianse, whose beneficiary has been accused of violating international sanctions. ....

More Russian TV channels have the plug pulled in Latvia

Just one day after Latvia s broadcast regulator announced a year-long suspension for the Rossija RTR television channel on Latvian territory, measures against 16 other Russian-language TV channels were confirmed.
While the  decision against Rossija RTR was taken because of its content, the National Electronic Mass Media Council (NEPLP) said the new measures were taken because of an administrative failure, specifically that it is not clear who is the official representative or representatives of the channel in Latvia who are responsible for the distribution of broadcasts.
The decision will take effect at midnight on 10 February.
