However, in more than two years of notifying the rule, fewer than 100 NOCs have been issued by the Authority for the extraction of groundwater for commercial purposes in Bengaluru. This year, only nine NOCs have been issued so far.
Groundwater experts in the city say digging 51 borewells to measure water level in deep aquifers is a welcome move by CGWB. While the majority of the water extraction in Bengaluru is happening from deep aquifers, there has not been any study so far to measure water levels in these aquifers.
