Private hospitals in Karnataka cite 'zero stock' of COVID vaccine

BENGALURU: Private hospitals will take some more time before resuming vaccination at their facilities as the government has told them to source vaccines on their own, but there is no stock available anywhere.
The Private Hospital and Nursing Association (PHANA) had written to Chief Secretary P Ravi Kumar a week ago, asking the government to supply them vaccines. PHANA president Dr HM Prasanna said, But we have not got any response. We have also approached Bharat Biotech and Serum Institute of India, but they have not replied either.
We have also written to Reddy s Lab for Sputnik vaccine, but they too have kept mum. The government should have informed us at least two months ago that private hospitals should buy vaccines on their own, but they told us just five days before the fourth phase was to start. Now, we are left with no vaccines, he added. ....

Karnataka Congress offers Rs 100 crore to help procure COVID-19 vaccines

Karnataka Congress chief D K Shivakumar said that he will write to Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa to utilise their LAD funds for vaccine procurement.
Shivakumar urged the state government to allow diversion of LAD funds for vaccine procurement.
As per current rules, only central and state governments, hospitals and industries can directly procure vaccines from the manufacturers.
New Delhi: The Karnataka Congress announced on Friday (May 14) that the MPs, MLAs and MLCs will mobilise their Local Area Development (LAD) fund of around Rs 100 crore to procure COVID-19 vaccines for the state. 
The government has miserably failed to protect the people and vaccinate people. Hence, the MPs, MLAs and MLCs of the Congress, who are 95 in number have decided to donate at least Rs one crore each to procure vaccines, PTI quoted former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, as saying.  ....

Covid-19: Vaccination of people above 18 in may be delayed: Karnataka Health Minister
Vaccination of people above 18 years of age, which was supposed to start from May 1, may be delayed as the vaccines have not yet arrived, Karnataka Health Minister Dr K Sudhakar said on Friday.
We have made orders to Serum Institute in Pune for over one crore doses but the official news is that they are still not prepared to give it to us from tomorrow as scheduled, the Minister told reporters here.
He asked people who have enrolled themselves on the Cowin portal for inoculation to refrain from going to vaccination centres on May 1. ....

The New Indian Express published a report on how Covaxin consent forms were available only in English, Jawaid Akhtar, Additional Chief Secretary, Health and Family Welfare Department, confirmed that the government is working with Bharat Biotech to get the forms translated to Kannada.
The process has already begun and the Kannada forms will be sent to districts where Covaxin is being administered.  ....
