Fall River business, political leaders downplay Correia trial impact

Hetzler, who serves as president of the Fall River Industrial Park Association, says he has no hard evidence that a company or companies decided against doing business in Fall River, as result of negative publicity while Correia was in office from 2016 to 2020.
But he says it’s plausible that it might have occurred.
“If they were 50-50 and undecided, it might have been enough for them to go somewhere else,” Hetzler said.
“The political climate was not very stable,” he added, “and maybe they didn’t want to take a chance.
“But we have a more stable leadership now and a lot of good things are happening with the commuter rail, the waterfront and the industrial park. So I think we’re looking at greener pastures.” ....

Business owners in Fall River, New Bedford assess effects of pandemic

NEW BEDFORD Staying home and working remotely during the pandemic hasn’t been an option for Jeff Glassman and his staff.
“We’re a very labor-intensive business,” said Glassman, chief executive of Darn It!, a New Bedford-based warehouse, distribution and garment repair business.
Glassman said his staff of nearly 80 sewers and warehouse workers have been back on the job for eight months.
“It took a few months to get the staff back,” he said.
“Our business is certainly down,” especially Glassman says, compared to the first quarter of 2020. “But we’re busy now and very lucky to be in the position we are today.” ....
