Two men charged after alleged involvement in a kidnapping on May 22, made appearances in Estevan provincial court on June 9. Both were scheduled to have show-cause hearings, but Ronald Himmelspeck and Creston Hansen, were remanded in custody as those hearings were rescheduled to July 4. Two other co-accused, Dustin MacNeil and Spencer Persson, made appearances in court on June 13 and both matters were adjourned until July 4 as well. Another co-accused, stemming from the same incident, Amanda Knebush, was in court on Monday for the results of a bail verification report that was ordered during her last appearance. The report, however, was not completed and she was remanded in custody until her next appearance on June 23. ....
Estevan provincial court was busy Monday with a number of sentencings and a trial held in limbo. Randy Clark, who was in custody, pleaded guilty to one count of fraud and one of forgery. Clark deposited a cheque at an ATM for $850 into an account he opened at a local bank. He then tried to deposit another two cheques totalling $400 that he stole from his employer. Those cheques had been cancelled before he was able to do so. Crown prosecutor Mitch Crumley noted Clark has more than 40 previous offences on his record, most of which are property offences. He said a clear message should be sent that this behaviour isn t tolerated and suggested Clark be sentenced to between 12 and 18 months in jail. ....
“I was kind of hoping to get everything put together,” Kemick told the court. Legal aid lawyer Adrian McBride said he was advised that Kemick attempted to resolve his charges in Saskatoon without success. “Crown advised that his counsel spent a considerable amount of time with Kemick and they were not able to resolve the matter,” said McBride. “These (charges) will stay here,” Judge Karl Bazin told Kemick. In Swift Current he is charged with break and enter, breaching release conditions, and failing to stop for police. Kemick was released on bail a couple of times but he was re-arrested after allegedly trying to flee from Swift Current police in December 2020. ....
