Agulay died on the spot while her husband remains in critical condition. Investigation is ongoing. Authorities believe that alcohol was a factor in the collision. “We are currently in the midst of an investigation of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and refusal to provide samples of breath for purposes of an impaired investigation,” said Sgt. Marcelina had picked up her husband, Leonilo, from work and was driving eastbound on Low Level Road when a driver believed to be intoxicated crossed the centre line and hit the couple head-on, according to North Vancouver RCMP. The suspect driver’s car was on fire when officers arrived. The intoxicated man managed to escape before the vehicle burst into flames, and was taken to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries, police said. Leonilo remains in critical condition in hospital. As of Friday afternoon, the GoFundMe page has raised over $29,000. Agulay, known by most as “Lina,” was a wife, mother, grandmother, teacher and community organizer. On Tuesday night, she was killed in a car crash in North Vancouver after police say another vehicle appears to have crossed the centre line. According to a GoFundMe set up by family members, her husband, Leonilo, who was in the passenger seat, is now fighting for his life. “We are all in shock and in utter disbelief,” organizer Karissa Abad wrote on the fundraiser. “Lina leaves behind a family who will miss her so dearly including a son and two grandchildren.” Agulay was a member of Migrante BC, a community organization that works to protect the rights of Filipino immigrants and migrant workers. ....
