The Waterloo-area sexual assault victim at the centre of a shocking decision to convict and fine her for violating a publication ban on her own name has won her appeal.

The conviction has been set aside and the court will be returning the $2,000 fine and $600 victim surcharge she had to pay.
In a brief hearing, Crown attorney Julia Forward said there was a jurisdictional error by convicting C.L. of obstruct justice and their position is that the “conviction cannot stand and I’m requesting that the appeal be allowed.”
