As Monday’s downpour presented a much-needed respite from the summer heat, for many the cheer dissipated as power outages notoriously accompanied the first drops of rain. While power disruption during rains should be the exception, in Karachi it has become the rule. Every year we see the same scenes with people going through painful experiences at the hands of power supply companies, be it K-Electric in Karachi or other companies in various cities across Pakistan. May 20, 2021 KARACHI: The Karachi Coordination Committee was informed on Thursday that the removal of encroachment from the city’s nullahs has been suspended after a court order, ARY News reported. A session of the committee, constituted for the uplift of the city, was chaired by Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah. The meeting was informed that the anti-encroachment drive at Mehmoodabad Nullah, Gujjar Nullah and Orangi Nullah, has been halted after the Sindh High Court’s restraining order. The meeting discussed removal of illegal encroachment from the city, funding for various initiatives and other concerned issues. The session was briefed that 260 MGD K-IV project for the city will be completed with an estimated cost of 60 billion rupees within three years. Till now 11.3 bln rupees have been spent on the project and 2.4 bln rupees have been allocated for the project this year. ....

This was stated by PTI Central Vice President Haleem Adil Shaikh on Sunday as he addressed a press conference in Gulshan-e-Umair Society. He said CM Murad Ali Shah should answer why he had turned the megacity of Karachi into a Katchra Kundi (garbage dump). Reacting to the letter sent by the CM to Prime Minister Imran Khan against federal minister Ali Zaidi after a spat in a meeting of the Karachi Coordination Committee, Shaikh alleged that “the Sindh government, particularly CM Shah, have even no shame to embezzle the funds of Zakat and money of pensioners.” ....
