New Delhi [India], March 17 (ANI): The government said on Wednesday it continues to procure Kharif crops at minimum support price (MSP) from farmers as was done in previous seasons.
Paddy procurement for Kharif 2020-21 is continuing smoothly in procuring states and Union Territories (UTs) of Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Telangana, Uttarakhand, Tamil Nadu, Chandigarh, Jammu and Kashmir, Kerala, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Bihar, Jharkhand, Assam, Karnataka, West Bengal and Tripura. ....

As the total cropped area increased significantly, Telangana is all set to see a record output of over one crore tonnes of paddy in the rabi season.
For the 2020-21 agricultural season, the total paddy output would be 2.5 crore tonnes as kharif, too, saw a significant increase in area.
In the rabi season, the paddy area went up to 52 lakh acres, going up by one-and-half times the normal area of 22 lakh acres. “This could yield about one crore tonnes, taking the total output in the two seasons to 2.5 crore tonnes. At 52 lakh acres, the State tops in paddy area in the season,” B Janardhan Reddy, Secretary (Agriculture), Government of Telangana, told ....

Soyabean surge on CBOT sows hopes of higher oilseed crop in India

Prices on CBOT near 7-year high
Soyabean prices surged to a near seven-year high of $14.44 a bushel (₹3,875 a quintal) on the Chicago Board of Trade on Monday on excess rains in Brazil and dry weather in Argentina.
The rise in soyabean prices due to the problems in the South American nations which make up nearly 50 per cent of global production raises hopes of higher acreage under oilseeds during the ensuing Kharif season that begins in June.
According to Trading Economics website, soyabean has increased 9.55 per cent since the beginning of this year with six per cent of the gains coming in the past month. ....

Amidst the ongoing farmers’ protests and increased minimum support price (MSP) procurement for paddy in Punjab, the Narendra Modi government has played a masterstroke by announcing direct online payment of the MSP for the upcoming
rabi marketing season (RMS).
Earlier this month, the Food Corporation of India’s (FCI) Punjab office wrote to the director of food, civil supplies and consumer affairs in order to request the land records of farmers to ensure direct bank transfer of MSPs for the approaching procurement season. The land records have been made mandatory for wheat procurement and must be updated before the commencement of the RMS 2021-22. ....
