ISD 318 discusses value of in-person learning Lori Grabarkewitz, a Robert J. Elkington Middle School (RJEMS) sixth grade science teacher and science fair coordinator, spoke to the Independent School District (ISD) 318 School Board Monday about this yearâs science fair participants. In mid-February students participated in the regional science fair at Bemidji State University. âThe kids had to complete everything virtually including their presentations, videos and sending them off to our regional science fairs,â said Graberkewitz. âWe did very well at regional.â Out of the 12 competitors, six qualified for state competition. âThe kids had a great experience, got feedback from the judges, and hopefully were inspired to continue doing this next year when we are back in person,â Grabarkewitz added. âIâm incredibly proud of them.â ....
Board to Approve 1.87% Decrease in District Tax Levy on December 21 Â At the annual Truth in Taxation meeting on December 7, the ISD 318 School Board reviewed the final tax levy which amounts to a decrease of 1.87% for taxpayers. âIf a resident sees an increase in their district taxes, it is only because the market value on their property has increased,â explained Business Manager Kara Lundin. The tax decrease is due to changes in the districtâs debt service and enrollment. Â âThe district collects taxes for bond payments each year. These specific bond payments are used to fund retiree health insurance, the construction of the new schools, and improvements to other district buildings,â said Lundin. âThe district has a slight balance in the debt service fund and accordingly, taxpayer levies are reduced.â ....
