Construction resumes on wind project that has generated national attention

LARAMIE – Construction on the Chokecherry and Sierra Madre Wind Energy Project in Carbon County started again for the season on April 12, and the project has generated its fair share of national attention in recent months.
In early March, the CCSM project was featured in a New York Times story on wind energy, and it is also featured in a Discovery Channel special feature on climate called “Action Planet.” The hour-long special includes a seven-minute focus on wind energy in Campbell and Carbon counties.
“The Carbon County portion has beautiful footage of the Rocky Mountain Power wind power plants in Carbon County, and an interview with Rawlins Mayor Terry Weickum about the new opportunities that wind energy is bringing,” Kara Choquette, director of communications and government relations for Power Company of Wyoming, LLC, said. ....

CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - The fourth meeting of Governor Gordon’s Platte Valley Mule Deer Local Area Working Group will convene virtually at 11 am on Friday, February 19th, 2021 to finalize the group’s review of the Platte Valley Mule Deer Migration Corridor and recommendations for the Governor.
The meeting will close discussion of key issues to be included in the working group’s recommendations to the Governor. Final recommendations are due March 15th. ....

New wind projects power local budgets in Wyoming

When the COVID-19 pandemic hit, Robin Lockman feared the worst for her town of Cheyenne, Wyoming. As the city’s treasurer, she estimated that it might lose up to 25% of its budget as tax revenues stalled and the prices of oil, gas and coal tanked, eliminating money the city typically receives from the state as royalties from the extractive energy industry.
So the city did the hard work of laying off 18 employees and cutting funds for travel and training. And then a surprising thing happened: The huge deficit never arrived. In fact, over the summer, the city brought in more tax revenue than the year before. ....
