Office of Civil Defense (OCD) Eastern Visayas Regional Director Lord Byron Torrecarion said on Thursday the shelters will be turned over to recipients on July 15. Temporary shelters are being constructed within the two-hectare property in Maganhan village. The Department of Public Works and Highways recently completed the site development. Army engineers are being assisted by personnel of the Bureau of Fire Protection, Philippine Army, and the Philippine National Police. Brig. Gen. Bernard Banac led the turnover on Wednesday of the PHP1.85 million cash aid to the two local governments during a program held at the Baybay Convention Center in Baybay City. In Abuyog town, some 139 displaced families received PHP6,072 each. In Baybay, eight families got PHP6,072 each and another 159 families received PHP6,073 each. Carl Cari) TACLOBAN CITY - The Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) will come up with updated geohazard maps for areas highly vulnerable to landslides in Leyte, an official said on Tuesday. MGB Eastern Visayas Regional Director Carlos Tayag said in a phone interview that he asked MGB geologists to update maps, especially in areas where there are requests from local government units. "We cannot make updated maps in all areas. We will just carry it out through our regular activities. The focus is the proposed relocation sites," Tayag said in a phone interview.
