Truck driver survives 70-foot plunge off an icy roadway as freezing weather snarls traffic across Midwest
A driver survived a 70-foot plunge off of a roadway Saturday and a Wisconsin Department of Transportation traffic camera recorded the dramatic scene.
The incident is just one of many that have occurred across the Midwest where snow, sub-zero temperatures and freezing rain have created dangerous, icy roadway conditions.
More than 41 million people remain under winter weather alerts that stretch from Oklahoma to Cape Cod, according to CNN Meteorologist Michael Guy.

State capitals across the US are preparing for possible attacks on their legislatures in the coming days similar to the insurrection at the US Capitol last week, hoping a larger law enforcement presence and extra security measures will stave off the worst.

As a result, state capitol buildings are on “high alert,” with local law enforcement and, in some cases, state National Guard troops mobilizing into action. ....

The FBI is warning all 50 states to be ready for armed protests ahead of the inauguration. The bureau says those protests could happen as soon as this week -with both Kansas and Missouri law enforcement officials keeping a close eye on any planned events. “It s never before happened before these type of circumstances, said Jeff Lanza, a former FBI agent. After the deadly assault on Capitol Hill -he says many of the people or groups planning dangerous events prior to Inauguration Day -are harder to track since many have left or been kicked off public platforms like Facebook, and have moved underground. “They re using encrypting communication using things like WhatsApp or Signal, which is not easily monitored by law enforcement agencies, said Lanza. Now that less information is available to authorities, Lanza says planning for the worse is their only option.“You plan for emergencies; you plan for the ....
