SunStar Duterte apologizes for use of Sinopharm vaccine

+ May 06, 2021 PRESIDENT Rodrigo Duterte has apologized for receiving a dose of the Sinopharm vaccine against coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) and asked the Chinese ambassador to withdraw the vaccine.
“So we are sorry. You are right, we are wrong. Ang Sinopharm maybe tomorrow or the following day wala na ‘yan. I made it as a personal request,” Duterte said in another Talk to the People address late Wednesday night, May 5, 2021.
He said his doctor had recommended that he get the Sinopharm vaccine, which was also administered to “all Chinese officials.” Duterte did not name his doctor.

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, May 6) President Rodrigo Duterte can still complete his COVID-19 vaccination if his order to return all Sinopharm doses to China because the vaccine has no emergency use authorization (EUA) yet from Philippine regulators, an infectious disease expert said on Thursday.
Dr. Rontgene Solante, a member of the Vaccine Expert Panel under the Department of Science and Technology, said Duterte can receive another Chinese manufactured vaccine Sinovac four weeks after he received his Sinopharm shot. Kung halimbawa hindi na pwede ang Sinopharm, meron namang isang bakuna na magkahawig sa Sinopharm na nabigyan ng approval natin, ang Sinovac, he said in a forum by the DOH.
