Covid-19: Chandigarh keeps apni mandis closed, night curfew under consideration
It was decided to continue to keep apni mandis closed, particularly in view of the risk of new strain of coronavirus.

Following the discovery of
new strain of COVID-19 virus in the United Kingdom, the Chandigarh Administration took key decisions in the war room meeting here on Wednesday. Besides keeping apni mandis closed, the UT Administration was also mulling over the concept of night curfew.
“As regards the proposal to impose night curfew in city, it was decided to wait and watch the situation a few more days before taking a final call on the matter,” said a statement issued by the administration. ....

Chandigarh: Fire in colony number 4, bride's hutment gutted before wedding

A day before her wedding, a bride’s hutment along with over 12 hutments were completely damaged after a fire broke out in colony number 4 on Sunday afternoon. Although no loss of life was reported, all belongings got damaged in the fire.
Rupali, the bride, was in her hutment and her haldi ceremony was going on when relatives saw some smoke coming from the rear side of the hutment.
“Gradually, the hutment caught fire. The fire spread to other hutments as well. Nothing was left. Everything has been gutted,” Rahul, a relative of the bride, said. ....

Green activists along with tree lovers from Tricity Saturday gathered in solidarity with 700 trees to be felled for the construction of a flyover on Dakshin Marg raising slogans of “Don’t Kill Only 700” .
Over 75 activists, including students, retired bureaucrats, social activists and environmentalists, gathered holding banners of saving trees at Sector 29 roundabout. The new bicycle sharing system has received a roaring response from Chandigarh residents. Within just two days of launch, there have been over 1,100 registrations and over 200 rides.
