Share COLUMBUS, Ohio – The members of the Ohio State men’s hockey team have voted on the program’s annual award winners for the 2020-21 season. For the second year in a row, goalie Tommy Nappier was voted the Most Valuable Player. Blueliner Layton Ahac was tabbed the team’s Best Defensive Player and forward Travis Treloar, who also won the leading scorer award, was voted the Rookie of the Year. Goalie Evan Moyse was selected the team’s Unsung Player and forward Kamil Sadlocha was voted Most Improved. Nappier was selected the team’s Most Valuable Player for the second year in a row. He is the 10th Buckeye to win the award more than once. He started 24 of 27 games in 2020-21, with a 3.28 goals-against average and .906 save percentage. A native of St. Louis, he ended his four-year Ohio State career third all-time in save percentage (.925), fifth in goals-against average (2.31), ninth in wins (40) and 10th in saves (2,221) while playing in 82 games with 72 starts. ....
Share COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 18 Ohio State men’s hockey team closed out the 2020 portion of its schedule with a 3-2 loss to Arizona State Friday in Value City Arena. Ohio State falls to 3-6-1 (3-5-0-0-1-0 B1G) and the Sun Devils improve to 4-6-2. The Big Ten released the 2021 men’s hockey slate today and the Buckeyes will return to action Jan. 8-9, 2021 when they host Penn State in Value City Arena. The full schedule is HERE. Arizona State 3, Ohio State 2 – The Short Story The Buckeyes led 1-0 after the first period on a Layton Ahac power play goal. The Sun Devils tied the game at 11:33 of the second with a power play score but Ohio State’s Matt Cassidy answered just 50 seconds later to put the Buckeyes back ahead. Arizona State scored twice in the final five minutes of the period, with an even strength goal at 15:46 and power play tally on a major at 19:48 to tie the game and take the lead. The teams will close the series at 5:30 p.m. Friday in VCA, wrapping up the first part of the Ohio State schedule. The Buckeyes are now 3-5-1 (3-5-0-0-1-0 B1G) and the Sun Devils are 3-6-2. Ohio State 4, Arizona State 4 OT – The Short Story Ohio State jumped out to a 3-0 lead less than 10 minutes into the game, with first period goals from Kamil Sadlocha (on the power play), Jaedon Leslie and Mark Cheremeta. The Sun Devils scored the next four, with two in the second and two in the first six minutes of the third, for a 4-3 lead. At 11:14 of the third Buckeye Tate Singleton tied the game at 4 and neither team was able to find the back of the net again, including through five minutes of 3-on-3 overtime play.
