At 2:40 a.m., radar showed a renewed area of very heavy showers moving over Maui from the south, with even more heavy showers developing further upstream. The NWS says ;ocalized rainfall rates of 2-3 inches per hour will exacerbate ongoing flooding from earlier rainfall. Portions of leeward Maui have received over 6 inches of rain over the past six hours, and runoff remains high.

The longtime East Maui lawmaker announced Tuesday that he would be retiring from the Senate, effective Saturday, as he deals with the long-term effects of COVID-19.

THIS IS A LIST of residential burglaries, stolen vehicles and vehicle break-ins in Maui County reported to the Maui Police Department from Feb. 28 to March 6. The list includes the majority of reports during the period and gives the approximate time of occurrence of the crimes. The information is compiled by the Maui Police Department Community Relations Section which helps residents organize Neighborhood Crime Watch groups throughout Maui. The Maui News publishes the report when it receives it from the Maui Police Department Community Relations Section. For more information on starting a Neighborhood Crime Watch, call 244-6380.
