Dhaka: Former Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Kamal Ziaul Islam passed away on Monday, he was 86.
“The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) expresses deep bereavement at the passing away of former President of the Board Kamal Ziaul Islam who breathed his last in Dhaka today (Monday, 03 May),” BCB said in an official statement.
According to BCB, Kamal Ziaul Islam, popularly known as K Z Islam, served as the Board’s President from 30 January 1983 to 18 February 1987. He is credited with inspiring the age group cricket structure in Bangladesh through the introduction of the Nirman School Cricket Tournament, a nationwide school cricket competition during his tenure as the President of the then Bangladesh Cricket Control Board (BCCB). ....

Former BCB president Kamal Ziaul Islam, popularly known as KZ Islam, has died in Dhaka. He was 86.
Islam was the president of the board, then known as the BCCB, between 1983 and 1987. During his term, he made the important contribution of introducing the country s first school-cricket competition. He funded the tournament through his company, Nirman International Ltd, which gave it its name: the Nirman School Cricket Tournament.
The competition moulded many top-class cricketers - Habibul Bashar, Khaled Mahmud and Javed Omar emerged from its first batch. Islam also set up the Nirman XI cricket team in the Dhaka league, which was promoted up to the List A Dhaka Premier League in the early 1990s. At one time, Islam hired Northamptonshire s Alan Fordham as player-coach of the Nirman side, and even arranged a private England tour for the team s young players. ....

Kamal Ziaul Islam, Chairman, Nirman International and a former President of Bangladesh Cricket Board, breathed his last in Dhaka on Monday. He was 86 years old.
Islam, popularly known as KZ Islam, is credited with inspiring the age group cricket structure in Bangladesh through the introduction of the Nirman School Cricket Tournament, a popular school cricket tournament in the 1980s and 1990s.
He was at the helm of BCB (former BCCB) from January 30, 1983 to February 18, 1987.
BCB expressed deep bereavement at the passing away of their former President and extended condolences and sympathies to his family. ....
