Demons quarterback Haden Camp couldâve given the Buena Vista backfield â but not the offensive line â the night off Friday as Class 2A spring football playoffs opened.
En route to a 49-0 drubbing of Clear Creek, Camp had a direct hand â and feet â in the Demonsâ first five touchdowns, which spanned just the first quarter plus 10 seconds.
In order, Camp ran for 84 yards, passed for 54, ran in from the 5 and then ran 57 yards before opening the second quarter with a 67-yard scoring strike.
âThose were called plays. He was lucky enough to break those runs. Our offensive line didnât let anyone touch him,â Buena Vista coach Matt Flavin said. âHe made some really good moves; nice to have a quarterback who can run, too.â
Clear Creek may have watched game film of the 4-0 Demons and decided they werenât going to be the third team in a row tackled for a loss on the first play from scrimmage.
After surviving the opening kickoff fumble caused by Haden Campâs hit, the Golddiggers (0-4) came out throwing. They could have tried running.
âThe start of the game is just preparation and knowing the situation,â Demons coach Matt Flavin said.
Clear Creek quarterback Michael Hillman tried passing the ball over the middle, but the pass bounced off the intended receiverâs shoulder pads and into the air.
