Tonga fought back hard in Hamilton but couldn t deny Manu Samoa a place at the 2023 Rugby World Cup.
Manu Samoa have booked their tickets to Rugby World Cup 2023, after completing their Oceania qualifying playoff against Tonga with another victory in Hamilton on Saturday evening. Enjoying a comfortable buffer going into the second leg, following their 42-13 win in Auckland last weekend, Samoa only had to ensure they didn’t lose by more than 30 points, to ensure their qualification. And, at a wet FMG Stadium Waikato, they again proved too slick for their Pacific counterparts, though had to withstand a determined second-half fight from Ikale Tahi before prevailing 37-15.

Samoa confirmed their place in the 2023 World Cup in France with a comfortable 37-15 victory over Tonga in Hamilton on Saturday to sweep their two-leg Oceania qualifying series.
They will go into Pool D alongside England, Japan, Argentina and the Americas 2 qualifier.
After losing the first game 42-13, Tonga needed to win by 29 points to take the series on aggregate.
But the first half proved expensive for Tonga with three forwards leaving the field injured while sporadic showers sweeping the ground led to handling errors and a misfiring lineout.
