State may bid for oil and gas leases in Jan. 6 sale in Arctic refuge

A state corporation has been given approval by its board to bid for acreage in a planned Jan. 6 federal lease sale in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. The Alaska Industrial Development Authority, or AIDEA the stateâs development finance corporation, was given authorization to place up to $20 million in bids for the acreage.
Former Alaska Gov. Frank Murkowski thinks the idea is good because the state is in a unique situation of getting half its money spent on bids returned by the federal government, an advantage no private company has.
However, a former state oil and gas director, Kay Brown, questions whether the authority has the expertise or capability to participate in a lease sale as high-risk as ANWR. ....

The U.S. Department of the Interior Bureau of Land Management has released the environmental assessment of the application from Kaktovik Inupiat Corp. to conduct seismic exploration within the Coastal Plain of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, according to a notice filed Dec. 16 in the Federal Register.
The Marsh Creek East 3D survey is proposed for the 2020-21 winter season, to encompass approximately 350,000 acres of private Alaska Native corporation and federally managed public lands in the eastern portion of the ANWR 1002 Area. ....

Trump administration takes next step toward seismic exploration this winter in Alaska’s Arctic refuge

The Trump administration has taken another step toward allowing an Alaska Native village corporation to begin searching for oil and gas drilling opportunities in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge this winter.
The Bureau of Land Management on Tuesday put out the environmental assessment of Kaktovik Inupiat Corp.’s application to conduct seismic exploration in the refuge’s coastal plain. The program would take place this winter on about 350,000 acres of federal and Native corporation land, according to BLM. ....
