York times. The other is from a Public University of washington model often cited by the white house. First, the government projections show the daily death toll there nearly double, from about 1,750 deaths currently to about 3,000 a day on june 1st. This is pretty dramatically different than where people were thinking. New cases are projected to go from about 25,000 a day to 200,000. The president was asked about the report in an interview with the New York Post. He said, quote, i know nothing about it. I dont know anything about it. Nobody told me that. I think its false. I think its fake news. The white house put out the following statement. This is not a white house document nor has it been presented to the Coronavirus Task force or gone through interagency vetting. This data is not reflective of any modeling, any of the modeling done by the task force or data that the task force has analyzed. Farce second time. I dont want to see a shultdown, shutdown won a terrible thing. So why did trumps press secretary say this earlier today . We want to see what the final piece of legislation looks like. Its hard to say whether or not the president will sign it until we know whats in it. Lisa lehrer is a National Reporter for the new york times. Welcome back. Two sources who have spoken directly to the president tells cnn he plans to sign the bill. Why does it seem the white house is stringing this along . With this president you never know if hell sign something until the ink is on the paper. Hes known for changing his mind and there are still some disputes over in congress about reauthorizing the violence against women act, about whether to give contractors back pay for their time off work during the shutdown so this is not quite a done deal by all the signal s were getting feel like its moving forward. It would be a weak moment for the president. This is the first major event of thi
Proposal has to go toward ideas that had been put forth, plans that had been put forth, not the wall. Not the president s wall so this is a tough moment where hes thinking about this as a positive but its not looking promising. Hi e says he doesnt want another shutdown so hopefully after this ends and the deal is signed, what are his next steps . He might try an alternative route to get the wall funded. He can go back to the idea of creating a national emergency. But if you look at the one big lesson the president may have taken away from the Government Shutdown which was crippling and demoralizing to people and what hes been hearing from elected officials on both sides of the isle since this debate began which is that they dont support the border wall so he could try to decide hes going to move forward with other immigration ideas where he can move the needle further and get more support from his base. This is kwhwhat the presiden keeps saying about his status of the wall. Here he is
far-fetched to get any other entity to pay for the wall. what we hear from the border patrol itself and its agents is that a physical wall isn t that important so i think it s possible that once we get past this juncture and start talking about what is in this proposal which is a lot more money for immigration detention, more money for the border patrol facilities where two young migrant children who died during christmas time were held, once we get to those actions where they re substantive problems and the president can see more wins come through, it s possible that he and ted cruz and others back away. deadline is friday. kaitlin dickerson, a pleasure. thank you very much. for the democrats who would like to unseat president trump, the race for the white house is turning into a race for who can be k embrace the most progressive policies. unless your name is amy klobuchar. the minnesota senator is taking a much more cautious stance on hot button issues like medicare
