Construction work for Phase One of the Mangawhai shared
path and Village intersection improvements is set to start
later this month. The work is largely funded by Waka Kotahi

Mangawhai Central Plan Change Approved

Wednesday, 28 April 2021, 2:16 pm
Kaipara District Council has accepted the recommendation
from the Hearings Panel to approve Private Plan Change 78
after Elected Members voted last month for further time to
consider the Panel’s findings.
The private plan
change application included multiple changes to the Kaipara
District Plan, Chapter 16, which covers Estuary Estates in
Mangawhai. Most specifically it includes an increase to
housing density, which would allow for more houses to be
built. The newly approved plan includes modifications to
some provisions that were requested by Mangawhai Central
Limited in December 2019.
The application was publicly
notified in April 2020. The Council received 208 ....

Mangawhai Wastewater Debt Crystal Clear

Thursday, 8 April 2021, 1:14 pm
Kaipara District Council has published a report about the
outstanding historic debt and capacity of the Mangawhai
Wastewater Scheme (MWWS).
The report brings together
information that has been reported in previous Annual
Reports and Long Term Plans and presents an up-to-date
picture of where things are at.
Mayor Dr Jason Smith
says this should put to bed any speculation and
misinformation that has surrounded the MWWS since the cost
overrun 10 years ago.
“That was a long time ago. We
now have a world class wastewater system that has
transformed the estuary back into a pristine ecosystem,”
says Dr Smith. “It’s doing its job, and the finances are ....

Electorates Under Review In Kaipara

Wednesday, 3 March 2021, 4:02 pm
Kaipara District Council has begun a review of local
electoral boundaries to ensure our rapid growth is reflected
in our elected representation and to accommodate a new
Māori ward.
Councils are required to review electoral
boundaries every six years, however, growth in our district
has required that we revisit our representation arrangements
now.
The decision by Elected Members in November 2020
to introduce a Māori ward also triggers a representation
review.
Each Elected Member should represent about the
same number of people, within +/- 10 percent. Using our
updated population data, the current Kaiwaka/Mangawhai and
Dargaville Wards are well outside the limits and the ....

Community Collaboration Leads Wood Street Revitalisation Project

Monday, 14 December 2020, 5:27 pm
After
months of planning, the Wood Street revitalisation project
really got rolling this month, with key changes implemented
following the latest community co-design
workshops.
The project was initiated by the Mangawhai
Business Association, who first approached Council in 2019.
They wanted a solution to ease the significant traffic
congestion and pedestrian safety issues in and around Wood
Street.
Mangawhai Business Association Chair Alan
Corkin said with changes the area could better accommodate
local residents and the influx of summer visitors wanting to
access the Wood Street area.
“Parking is essential
to the health of the businesses in the area, but cars create ....
