The wins by World Half Marathon record holder Kibiwott Kandie and world 5,000m champion Hellen Obiri provided exciting headlines at the 40th Kenya Defence Forces cross country championship at Moi Airbase Eastleigh in Nairobi on Friday.
Kandie of Embakasi Garrison, who won the title last year and basking in a world record of 57.32, produced a sudden burst of speed to upstage Collins Koros of Kahawa Barracks and teammate Eric Kiptanui in a three-way battle at Moi Airbase cross country circuit. ....

Obiri of Laikipia Air Base made a return to the KDF Championships after missing last year s event through injury, her time of  33 minutes, 25.1 seconds good enough for first place.

World Half Marathon record holder Kibiwott Kandie and Hellen Obiri were victorious at the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) Cross Country championships at the Moi Air Base on Friday 29 January 2021.
The Embakasi based Kandie won the men s title in a time of  c29 minutes, 24.5 for victory, finishing ahead of Kahawa Garrison s Collins Koros who clocked 29:32.5 and Eric Kiptanui of Embakasi Garrison who claimed third place in 29:40.5. ....

The stage has been set for a sweltering race at the Ras Al Khaimah (RAK) half marathon as former world record holder Geoffrey Kamworor is confirmed as the latest entrant.
Also included in the elite line-up for the February 19 race is two-time world 5000m champion Hellen Obiri.
With record-holders Kibiwott Kandie (men half marathon), Brigid Kosgei (women marathon), Peres Jepchirchir (women-only) and Ethiopian Ababel Yeshaneh (women half marathon), jaw-dropping pace at the United Arab Emirates is expected. ....

Fireworks are expected when the second leg of Athletics Kenya cross country meeting gets underway at Koitalel Samoei University College in Nandi County tomorrow.
Reigning world cross country champion Hellen Obiri, winner of the first meet in Machakos last month, will lead the women’s onslaught.
Obiri, who competes for Kenya Defence Forces, will be up against an armada of world beating stars among them home-girl and world 21km record holder Peres Jepchirchir. The showpiece, which attracts more than 40,000 spectators in Nandi County that prides itself as the source of champions will no doubt send adrenaline pulse racing. ....
