The republican orthodoxy since the reagan era. you know, separately from that, white house officials say they know the tax cut plan isn t polling very well right now. but they re betting, craig, that come early february, when americans finally see the impact of the tax cuts in their paychecks, that could all change. jeff bennett at the white house, kacie hunt, thank you. the white house and republican leaders in congress do appear unified around one thing, the language that they use to describe this last minute budget bill. this is white house press secretary sanders and house speaker ryan earlier today. we have maintained our position all along. we want a clean bill. no games, no sneaky things. a continuing resolution to get us through this moment to get us into next year. for more on this clean bill and some other issues as well, shannon pennypiece, white house reporter at bloomberg. jake sherman, senior writer at ....
We re now expecting that vote to happen later today. tonight possibly on the later side. so this set to be the first legislative accomplishment under president trump. and of course democrats saying, hey this is going to hurt republicans in the long run. we re going to see, november 2018. our hard-working capitol hill staff will be on the scene late tonight again. kacie hunt, thank you for that. joining me now, tim carney. cnbc contributor ron insatto. so ron, i want to start with you. because we ve been talking all along about how the president campaigned on and has said since he was elected about how he was going to help the middle class. he campaigned on. he won on a populist message. is he going to be able to make that argument six months, a year from now? i don t think so, chris. i think every analysis so far, whether it s a joint committee on taxation, whether it s a tax policy center, shows the ....
Lawmakers, as we said, expected to vote just minutes from now. kacie hunt has been following it all from the very beginning from capitol hill. so what do we know about what folks have been saying about this and could we be just minutes away from the start of this vote, kacie? it look like we are just minutes away from the beginning of this, chris. as you point out, we would normally expect the house speaker to be the person who was the last speaker on something like this. so keep an eye out for that to begin. but, again, this really i think and i just spoke very briefly with paul ryan a few moments ago as he was walking on to the house floor. i asked him if he would do it on this of all days. he still said no. help w but he was clearly in an upbeat mood. an accomplishment for him personally. something he s talked about for decades quite frankly. it s not necessarily exactly what he started out selling. this is not simplify the tax code to the degree he has been ....
House, the senate and the house. we re committee that are supposed to decide how we re going to apportion the taxpayer revenue we receive in order to meet the needs of any of the american people. if you think about how many unmet needs there are that are not resolved, long overdue children s health insurance program. community health centers. fires waging across the west. status of dreamers. response to i was going to say, i m out of fingers. this is no way to run a railroad. it s certainly no way to run a government. if there s a shutdown, i think it can only reflect poorly on party in control of the congress. thank you all very much. chris, you heard senator kuntz talking about the topics of the day. talking about whether the government will be funded. there doesn t seem to be a lot of nervousness here that we ll see a government shutdown going into this weekend. again, these negotiations have been very unpredictable. kacie hunt, i ll let you go back to talking to members as yo ....
Trade but, also more it notably this issue of tax cuts as the house and senate try to reconcile different versions of the tax reform bill. the president said basically they re going to come together with what he described as a perfecto bill. but what i think really struck me is when he said he has never seen unity within the republican party like we re seeing right now. saying those words again as he sat just inches away from jeff flake who has shown the real divisions within this party. peter alexander, undeterred at the white house by those leaf blowers. always good to see you, buddy. for more, nbc s kacie hunt on capitol hill, kacie, what does this mean for his sneet. well, craig, the congressman today, after incredible pressure from democratic leaders, including some members of the congressional black caucus, which he co-founded, has announced he s no longer going to be there after today. ....
