It appears the management of the
Lagos State University (LASU) has failed to learn from the controversy that led to the recent cancellation of the appointment of a new vice-chancellor for the institution.
The school has again shortlisted two candidates without PhDs (Doctor of Philosophy) for its vacant vice chancellor position despite the position of the National Universities Commission (NUC), the agency that regulates university education in Nigeria, that fellowships of any professional bodies or organisation cannot be substituted for a PhD. ....

The man expected to be named acting vice-chancellor is a professor in LASU.
Barring any last-minute changes, Governor
Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State will announce the appointment of a professor of Sociology at the Lagos State University (LASU), Ojo, Wahab Elias, as the institution’s acting vice-chancellor.
Mr Elias, who is the incumbent deputy vice-chancellor in charge of
academics, would take over from the outgoing 8th substantive vice-chancellor, Olanrewaju Fagbohun, whose tenure ends on Monday, January 11.
The announcement is expected to be made today (Friday) by the chief press secretary to the governor, Gboyega Akosile. ....

Following the numerous petitions and pressure on the Visitor to the Lagos State University LASU, who is also the State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on the choice of a new Vice Chancellor for the university, the governor is expected to appoint an acting VC for the institution.
This follows the cancellation of the selection process earlier embarked upon by the selection committee which included some members of the Governing Council and representatives of the Senate of the school.
Efforts to get official reactions proved futile as lines of the persons who could speak on the matter were switched off. ....

Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) at the Lagos State University (LASU), Ojo, has written a letter of complaint to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu over what it described as ‘non-transparent’, the ongoing selection process for the institution’s 9th substantive vice-chancellor.
The letter, dated January 1, 2021, and signed by both the secretary and his assistant, Tony Dansu and Adeolu Oyekan, respectively, also passed a vote of no confidence on the chairman of the university’s governing council, Adebayo Ninalowo. ....
