DOLE's TUPAD benefits 122K displaced Ilocos workers in 1H of 2022

File photo SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union - Some 121,791 displaced and disadvantaged workers in the Ilocos Region have been given employment in the first half of 2022 through the emergency employment, Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD). Of the total number, 44,154 workers were from Ilocos Sur, 19,642 from Ilocos Norte, 18,046 from La Union, and 39,949 from Pangasinan. In a statement issued on Wednesday, Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Ilocos regional director lawyer Evelyn Ramos said the agency has disbursed over PHP523 million for the program. "This includes wages for the workers and procurement for their personal protective equipment and insurance coverage. Also part of the disbursements is the administrative costs and salaries for TUPAD coordinators," she said. DOLE eyes 2.4K Ilocos youths for special employment program

MALASIQUI, Pangasinan - The Department of Labor and Employment Ilocos regional office (DOLE-1) is opening 2,460 slots for students and out-of-school youths in the region under this year's Special Program for the Employment of Students (SPES). DOLE Ilocos regional office information officer Justin Paul Marbella said 88 percent of SPES workers will be deployed in local government units (LGUs), while the 12 percent will be under private employers. "The approved pledges or commitment from partner employers already exceeded the target at 3,775," he said in a phone interview on Wednesday. Some of them have already started working depending on the period of implementation of the program, while some LGUs are still looking for beneficiaries. SPES program provides poor but deserving students the opportunity to work and earn at the same time acquire knowledge and develop their skills. Minimum wage hikes in Ilocos Region approved

MALASIQUI, Pangasinan - The daily minimum wage rate in the Ilocos Region will soon increase to PHP372 and PHP400 following the approval of the Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board-1 (RTWPB1). In an interview on Tuesday, Department of Labor and Employment Ilocos Region information officer Justin Paul Marbella said the new minimum wage rate is now up for the affirmation of the National Wages and Productivity Commission. "After which, it will be published in local newspapers and then the new rate shall be effective in 15 days upon publication," he said.
