hKid's Fun Triathlon The 11th Annual Kid’s Fun will be held on July 18 at 8 a.m. The event will get underway with the swimming leg at Four Seasons Leisure Pool, followed by the cycling leg to Fort George Park and a run around the park. Categories include eight-year-olds and under, nine and 10, 11-12, 13-14 and 15 years old in boys, girls and mixed competition. Kids can compete as a team or individually. For 10 and under there is a 100-metre swim, 4-kilometre cycle and 1-kilometre run. For ages 11 to 15, it is 200-metre swim, 8-kilometre cycle and 2-kilometre run. Registration forms can be picked up at the PG Aquatic Centre, Four Seasons Pool, PGTV, McBike Stride and Glide, the Family Y and the Prince George Free Press. ....
At 46, Wilson would the first to admit his best days as an athlete are well behind him, but playing ball is something he looks forward to every year and right now it’s the kids who are suffering the most while their activities are curtailed by provincial health orders. “I feel bad for kids missing their sports, I couldn’t imagine being a young kid, it would just suck,” said Wilson. “It just kills me when I drive by on Ospika and see the soccer fields just empty. “I just think there’s more harm being done to kids (not letting them play) but I’m no doctor. It’s just unfortunate. Some people want everything locked down and some people want to go back to normal, and when you try to do something in the middle it seems like everybody’s mad. I don’t envy the people making those decisions.” ....
It’s been a dreadful season for the Prince George Spruce Kings, but they aren’t prepared to write if off yet. The Spruce Kings are eight points behind the seventh-place Quesnel Millionaires with 17 games remaining, far from mathematically eliminated from the playoffs. While the Spruce Kings occupy the basement of the B.C. Hockey League with a record of eight wins, 33 losses, zero ties and two overtime defeats (8-33-0-2), seven of eight Interior Conference teams qualify for the playoffs. Therefore, despite their poor record and struggles the past couple of months, postseason hopes are still alive for the league’s northernmost team. ....
