Chioma Okoli Gets N1 9M Donation To Support Legal Battle With Erisco Foods Over Tomato Review As Case Suffers Delay Over Judge s Promotion

Mrs Chioma Edoka Okoli, a woman who was previously arrested for reviewing the tomato product of Erisco Foods Limited has received the sum of N1.9 million donation for legal fees.   This was confirmed to SaharaReporters in a WhatsApp conversation with her lawyer, Inibehe Effiong on Thursday morning.   The lawyer said as of Wednesday evening, the total amount donated by well-meaning Nigerians for Chioma stood at N1,968,327.75.   Okoli was arrested and detained in September 2023.

Armed policemen allegedly sent by the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, have vacated the private residence of Chioma Edoka Okoli after laying siege to the house for over 10 hours.  The police personnel invaded her home on Tuesday morning over the review of a tomato product made Erisco Foods Limited on Facebook. Okoli, a female customer was previously arrested for reviewing the tomato product. Her house is located at Sangotedo in Lagos State. Chioma Okoli was arrested and detained in September 2023.

Judge s Absence Stalls Case Against Chioma Okoli Over Review Of Erisco Tomato Product

The case filed at the Federal High Court in Abuja by the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, against the Erisco Foods Limited female customer, Mrs. Chioma Edoka Okoli, over her review of the company’s tomato product on Facebook in 2023, was stalled on Wednesday. SaharaReporters learnt that the case was stalled by the absence of the presiding judge, Justice A. R. Mohammed. This was disclosed on Wednesday by Inibehe Effiong, a human rights lawyer and counsel for Mrs Okoli, who noted that Justice Mohammed was recently elevated to the Court of Appeal.
