THE Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) says it hopes to overturn the rulings that freed Orji Kalu, current Senate chief whip and Olisa Metuh, former national publicity secretary of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) from prison this year.
The commission, through its monthly publication entitled ‘EFCC Alert’ listed Babachir Lawal, former secretary to the government of the federation; Adesola Amosu, former chief of air staff; Abdulrasheed Maina, former chairman of the Pension Reform Task Team; Andrew Yakubu, former group managing director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC); Babangida Aliyu, former governor of Niger state, and Winifred Oyo-Ita, former head of civil service of the federation as some of the prominent Nigerians whose corruption cases would continue in court this year. ....

N10.9bn Fraud: Court Jails Ex-Finbank MD, Three Others

The former Managing Director of Finbank Plc, Mr Okey Nwosu, has been convicted and sentenced to three years imprisonment after being found guilty for over N10 billion fraud by Justice Lateefa A. Okunnu of the Lagos State High Court sitting in Ikeja, on Tuesday, January 5, 2021.
Mr Nwosu, alongside his fellow defendants, Dayo Famuroti, Agnes Ebubedike and Danjuma Ocholi had been arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) bordering on stealing and illegal conversion to the tune of N10.9 billion.
However, they had earlier pleaded not guilty to the charge preferred against them, thereby leading to their full trial. ....

Ex-Finbank MD, Nwosu, Three Others Jails Over N10.9bn Fraud In Lagos

LAGOS – A Lagos State High Court sitting in Ikeja, on Tuesday has convicted and sentenced Chief Okey Nwosu, a former Managing Director, Finbank Plc, to three years imprisonment for N10.9m fraud.
Justice Lateefat A. Okunnu who delivered the Judgement found the defendants guilty, sentenced the first and second defendants, Nwosu and Famoroti, to three years imprisonment each.
She also sentenced the third defendant, Ocholi, to 12 months imprisonment and slammed a six- month community service on the fourth defendant, Ebubedike.
It will be recalled that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had arraigned Nwosu alongside Dayo Famuroti, Agnes Ebubedike and Danjuma Ocholi on a 26-count amended charge bordering on stealing and illegal conversion to the tune of N10,934,704,402. ....

Court jails former bank MD over N10.9bn fraud

The Lagos State High Court sitting in Ikeja has convicted and sentenced a former Managing Director, Finbank Plc, Okey Nwosu, to three years imprisonment for over N10.9 billion fraud.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had arraigned Mr Nwosu alongside Dayo Famuroti, Agnes Ebubedike and Danjuma Ocholi on a 26-count amended charge bordering on stealing and illegal conversion to the tune of N10,934,704,402.
The defendants, who perpetrated the fraud while they were directors of the bank, pleaded not guilty to the charge preferred against them, thereby leading to their full trial.
In the course of the trial, the prosecution counsel, Rotimi Jacobs, called witnesses and also tendered several documents that were admitted in evidence against the defendants. ....
