Colombo (News 1st); The complete report of the committee appointed to probe the Mahara Prison Riot was handed over to Minister of Justice Ali Sabri by the members of the committee on Wednesday (30).
Former High Court Judge & Chairman of the Special Committee probing the Mahara Prison Riot, Kusala Sarojini Weerawardena handed over the report at the Justice Ministry.
Committee members President’s Counsel U.R. De Silva, Justice Ministry Additional Secretary Rohana Hapugaswatte, Rtd. Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police D.R.L. Ranaweera and former Prisons Commissioner Gamini Jayasinghe were present for the handover. ....

A five-member committee that concluded its initial investigation into the Mahara prison unrest said several of the prisoners were shot in the melee but confirmation if any were shot at close range can only be verified after autopsies are carried out. ....
