Exclusive Interview: Sarah Brailey, Grammy-Winning WORT Host The The Prison, a choral symphony by Dame Ethel Smyth that features soprano Sarah Brailey along with bass-baritone Dashon Burton and Musica Antiqua, but she is involved in several other Madison-area groups as well: Just Bach Alan Muirhead, another co-host of Musica Antiqua. How did you get involved with the project to record The Prison? I met James (conductor/composer James Blachly) about five years ago when I sang one of his songs on a concert at a Trinity Wall Street music festival. As you know, the community of classical performers is quite small so we knew of each other, but this was the first time working together and we both enjoyed it immediately. He told me then that he was working on this project and had already involved Dashon Burton, who was a friend of mine, and he said that he’d like me to sing the soprano part. Angela Puerta is a Colombian singer-songwriter and guitarist based in Madison, Wisconsin. Angelaâs main music influence is Rock en Español, Alternative Rock, Pop, Funk, Reggae, Colombian traditional music and other Latin American rhythms. She has performed at different venues in Colombia, Australia and the U.S. At 18, while in living in Colombia, Angela created her first cover rock band, Umbral12pm. Because of the Emergency Order in Dane County, this month s musical offerings were recorded, not from the Sanctuary of our home church, Luther Memorial, but from individual players homes, and from the lovely Sanctuary of St. Matthias Episcopal Church, in Waukesha. Just Bach Co-Founder Sarah Brailey provides the opening remarks, with an overview of our December concert program. Sarah then joins Mark Brampton Smith in four short chorale preludes on Advent melodies, from the Orgelbüchlein (Little Organ Book); Mark plays the organ part as written, while Sarah sings the melodies on which the preludes are based. Next we have violinist Nathan Giglierano playing the Largo from the third solo violin sonata, and then, joined by his wife, violist Gillian Giglierano, two short selections arranged for violin/viola duet.
