Bai L. has been in pretrial detention since his arrest in March 2021 in Germany, where he had been living since leaving The Gambia in 2012. This trial, which began on April 25, 2022 in the German city of Celle, is the first to tackle human rights violations committed in The Gambia during the Jammeh era on the basis of universal jurisdiction.

These are the findings of the joint report published by FIDH, TRIAL, REDRESS, ECCHR, CJA and Civitas maxima on ongoing universal jurisdiction cases in 2020.
