Dr Junaidu Mohammed, a Second Republic Member of the House of Representatives, who transitioned to the great beyond in February this year, was as controversial as they come. A stormy petrel, he died,  aged 71.
I had first met him at a seminar organized in Jos in about 2012 by Professor Isawa Elaigwu,
my oga at the top. We didn’t strike a great friendship but we exchange pleasantries and messages once in a while.. About one year ago, precisely on January 22 2020, I cornered him for a no-holds-barred telephone interview which lasted for over one and half hours. The interview was published in my now rested column in the Daily Trust (Thursdays, back page) as well as in the online newspaper, The News Chronicle – among other places. ....

Northern Elders Mourn Junaid, Dikko

The Northern Elders’ Forum (NEF) has commiserated with the families of a critic and politician, Dr Junaid Mohammed, and the former Comptroller-General of Nigerian Customs Service, Abdullahi Dikko, who died hours apart on Thursday.
A statement by the Director, Publicity and Advocacy of the forum, Dr Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, described the late Mohammed as a key player in the nation’s political fortunes.
While also describing the former NCS CG as a humble, generous and a patriot, the forum expressed sadness that the duo passed away only a few weeks after the demise of Alhaji Usman Faruk.
The statement read, “Northern Elders Forum is saddened by the loss of two more of its founding members, Dr Junaidu Muhammed and Alhaji Abdullahi Dikkon Inde, only a few weeks after the demise of Alhaji Usman Faruk. ....

The main opposition party, Peoples Democratic Party; Yoruba Socio-political group, Afenifere; and some individuals have expressed surprise that 10 governors of the All Progressives Congress could abandon their state duties to accompany the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), to revalidate his membership of their party in his hometown, Daura, Katsina State on Saturday.
The President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan, was also part of the President’s entourage.
Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, disclosed the number of governors and others, who accompanied the President in a statement titled “We have nothing to hide, our books will always be open – President Buhari.” ....
