‘Faith, grit & determination:’ Mills River marathoner, business owner outran cancer Stephen Kindland, Times-News correspondent For distance runner, business owner, single mother and cancer survivor Daphne Kirkwood, there is no finish line. “I don’t want to waste any time because time is so precious,” said Kirkwood, whose event production company staged the inaugural Jump Off Rock Half Marathon and 10K on May 8. “I’m always like, OK, am I making the most of the day? I think it’s really important that people live, and keep living as long as you can.” Kirkwood, of Mills River, has planned and directed scores of 5k and 10k races, triathlons and other outdoor competitions in the region through iDaph Events and Timing, a limited liability company she founded 10 years ago on a shoestring budget.

Closed streets, the opening of farmers markets, a new balloon festival and more are planned for Saturday, May 8. Here s everything you need to know.  LoveHendo downtown  Main Street will be closed to vehicles from First Avenue to Sixth Avenue all day on May 8. Cross streets will remain open. Parking will be available near Main Street and handicapped parking will be available at Courthouse Square and City Hall. Public restrooms are located at the Visitors Center on the south end of Main Street and at 125 Fifth Avenue on the northern end.

LoveHendo returns: Lots to do for all ages in downtown Hendersonville May 8 May 8 will be a busy day in downtown Hendersonville with the kickoff of this year s LoveHendo Saturdays and the Hendersonville Farmers Market, in addition to a balloon festival, the Jump Off Rock Half Marathon and 10K and shows at the Center for Arts & Entertainment. The community is invited to experience outdoor shopping and entertainment downtown while practicing social distancing.
