Islamabad : The faithful observed ‘Jummatul Wida’ (the last Friday of Ramazan), by attending mosque congregations here in large numbers.
Though the government had announced standard operating procedures (SOPs) for ‘Jummatul Wida’ events to stem the spread of COVID-19, worshippers largely turned a deaf ear to them and neither observed physical distancing nor used face marks.
The largest congregation was observed in Faisal Mosque, where people from outside of Islamabad, also showed up to offer Friday prayers.
Security checks were in place outside mosques.
The clerics highlighted in sermons highlighted the significance of the day and led prayers for the country s progress and early elimination of the COVID-19 pandemic. ....

Pakistan has extended its condolences to worshippers injured in the attack on the Al-Aqsa mosque by the Israeli Occupation Forces on Friday.
More than 170 Palestinians were injured after Israeli forces stormed the holy mosque s compound and dispersed the worshippers who had gathered for Jummatul Wida prayers.
The Israeli police fired rubber-coated metal bullets at the worshippers.
In a statement by the Pakistan Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Saturday, the government said that such attacks, especially during the Holy Month of Ramazan are against all humanitarian norms and human rights laws. ....

PESHAWAR: Chief Minister Mahmood Khan ordered the authorities concerned to ensure strict lockdown from May 8 to May 16 in line with the recommendations of National Command and Operation Centre as the province recorded 40 deaths and 792 new Covid-19 cases on Thursday.
The chief minister told a meeting of provincial task force on Covid-19 that all the business and markets would remain closed except the exempted outlets providing essential services, according to a statement.
The meeting, attended by provincial ministers Taimur Saleem Jhagra, Shahram Tarakai, Shaukat Yousafzai and Kamran Bangash and Corps Commander Peshawar Lt Gen Nauman Mahmood, Chief Secretary Dr Kazim Niaz and Inspector General of Police Dr Sanaullah Abbasi, also decided that Jummatul Wida and Eid prayers would be performed under strict standard operating procedure. ....

The National Command and Operation Centre has issued SOPs for Youm-e-Ali majalis, Eid prayers, Shab-e-Qadr prayers, Jummatul Wida and aitkaaf this year.
According to the forum, it is mandatory for people to follow the precautionary measures to curb coronavirus infections in the country.

The government has banned all processions and gatherings on Youm-e-Ali this year. Permission to hold majalis in outdoor settings have been given where the devotees will have to maintain social distancing. People have been encouraged to hold online majalis. LAHORE: Keeping in view the worsening Covid-19 situation, the government has decided to place Lahore under a complete lockdown on Saturday and Sunday (May 1 and 2).
The lockdown restrictions will not be applicable to the industry operating under coronavirus-related standard operating procedures (SOPs).
