Malami writes UPU to beg Ibori withdraw suit against repatriation of £4.2m looted assets

The Federal Government has written to Urhobo Progress Union, UPU, to prevail on the former Delta State Governor, Chief James Ibori to withdraw the suit he instituted against the United Kingdom on the confiscation and planned repatriation of about £4.2 million linked to him.
The Federal Government also said that the intervention of the UPU would create an enabling environment for the consideration of the appeal by the union that the alleged looted asset should be used to implement projects in the state. ....

Ike Ekweremadu (born 12 May 1962) is a Nigerian politician and lawyer from Enugu State who has served in the Senate of Nigeria since May 2003. He is a member of the People’s Democratic Party and was the Deputy President of the Nigerian Senate for three consecutive (6th, 7th and 8th) senate.
Ike Ekweremadu was born in 1962 at Amachara Mpu in Aninri Local Government Area of Enugu State, and is of Igbo origin. He holds both Bachelors and master’s degree in Law from the University of Nigeria, and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1987. He also holds Doctor of Philosophy Degree in Law from the University of Abuja, Nigeria. ....

Electoral Act Amendments: INEC Chairman Calls for Bipartisan Approach

The Chairman, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Mahmood Yakubu has called on National Assembly to use bipartisan approach in amending the Electoral Act to help improve elections in the country.
He made the call at the inauguration of the Joint Technical Committee on the Electoral Act Amendment Bill yesterday in Abuja.
The event was organised by the National Assembly Joint Committee on INEC and Electoral Matters with support from Policy and Legal Advocacy Centre (PLAC) and UK Foreign and Commonwealth Development Office (FCDO).
The INEC chairman was represented by Mr. Festus Okoye, INEC National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee. ....
