Alvarez, a Napa resident, had been laid off from her job at a sandwich shop in St. Helena in the spring; since then, sheâd been relying exclusively on EDD checks to help support her modest lifestyle. Then the payments stopped. It wasnât without notice; Alvarez received a message from the EDD explaining that her claim had been suspended. But all she would have to do to renew the claim, the message went on, was verify her identity through ID.me, the online platform used by the agency. If the forecast comes true you may have to resign yourself to use that umbrella more often and keep the boots by the door!
