HUNTINGTON — Two Marshall University faculty members are among the co-principal investigators on a neuroscience research project for which $20 million in National Science Foundation (NSF) grant funds were announced

Joseph Serafin, of Philippi, died on Jan. 18, 2021, at his home with his wife and daughters by his bedside.
He was born Dec. 11, 1921, in Bayard, Grant County. He was the son of the late Andrew and Mary Augustine Serafin.
Joe married Lois Ann Bachtel on June 28, 1952, at Red House, Maryland. They had been married for 68 and a half years.
Surviving are two daughters, Juliana Serafin (husband, Albert Liu) of Charleston, and Priscilla Serafin (husband, Timothy R. Young) of Rowley, Massachusetts. Grandchildren are Rebecca S. Young, Ethan B. Young, Isaac J. Liu and Elena G. Liu.
Joe was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Proceeding him in death were three sisters, Virginia Grapes, Jennie Guthrie and Helen Kovak; and three brothers, Chris “Dosty” Serafin, Pete Serafin and John Serafin.
