The COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic has laid bare many of the deep gender inequalities in Uganda. Before the pandemic, women already spent about 3.5 times more hours than men each week on domestic labor. With school closures, these care burdens have only gotten heavier, giving women less time to devote to economic activities. Some have left the labor market altogether, and women’s businesses, which already were smaller and less profitable than men’s, were the first to close as the economy contracted. Across the Sub-Saharan region, 43% of woman-owned businesses were closed in the early months of the pandemic, compared to 34% of those owned by men. ....

Delight Uganda will need sufficient supply of fruits if it is to sustain production at planned Shs30b factory, according to Dr Julian Adyeri Omalla, the Delight Uganda chief executive officer. 
The Shs30b factory, which is a partnership between government and Delight, will need large scale supply of mangoes and orchards to support a sustained manufacturing pattern.
Speaking in an interview recently Dr Omalla said that whereas they had over the years moblised close to 25,000 farmers, especially in Nwoya District to grow mangoes and orchards, there is need for continuous production to ensure sustainability.  ....

The Shs30b, which is a partnership between government and Delight Uganda, will need large scale supply of mangoes and orchards, which will be some of the main raw materials needed to create a sustainable manufacturing pattern.
Speaking in an interview recently, Dr Julian Adyeri Omalla, the Delight Uganda chief executive officer, said whereas they had over the years moblised farmers, especially in Nwoya District to grow mangoes and orchards, there is need for continuous production to ensure sustainability of the factory.  ....

In 2016, entrepreneur JULIAN ADYERI OMALLA, the chief executive officer of Delight Uganda Ltd, contemplated quitting the expansion of her juice business when she lost more than Shs 3.8 billion after a failed venture in South Sudan due to instability.
Faced with uncertainty and growing debt, she embarked on large-scale fruit growing on her 1,800-acre piece of land in Nwoya.
The farm has transformed the livelihoods of the community and in a bid to raise the bar to commercial sustainabil ....
