Kuala Lumpur: Former Federal Territories Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor has filed an appeal against a 12-month jail sentence and  fine of RM2 million imposed by the High Court Monday after finding him guilty of accepting  bribe of RM2 million from a businessman.
His lawyer, Datuk Tan Hock Chuan, when contacted by reporters, said the notice of appeal was filed Monday through the online judicial system (e-filing).
Meanwhile, deputy public prosecutor Julia Ibrahim said whether or not the prosecution would file an appeal over the sentence would be made by the Attorney General’s Chambers within 14 days from the date of judgement. ....

KUALA LUMPUR: Former Federal Territories Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor has filed an appeal against a 12-month jail sentence and fine of RM2mil imposed by the High Court which found him guilty of accepting a RM2mil bribe.
The notice of appeal was filed on Monday through the online judicial system (e-filing), said his lawyer Datuk Tan Hock Chuan.
Meanwhile, Deputy Public Prosecutor Julia Ibrahim said whether or not the prosecution would file an appeal over the sentence would be made by the Attorney General’s Chambers within 14 days from the date of judgment.
High Court judge Justice Mohamed Zaini Mazlan on Monday sentenced Tengku Adnan, 70, to 12 months in jail and fined him RM2mil in default six months’ jail. ....

Malaysian politician Tengku Adnan Mansor has been found guilty of graft, two weeks after a separate corruption trial involving the member of parliament was halted following a prosecutor’s call for a discharge not amounting to acquittal.
The Monday verdict came just days after Malaysia’s hotly debated 2021 budget was narrowly passed, raising questions as to whether Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin ’s slim two-vote parliamentary majority will now be further weakened.
Tengku Adnan was on Monday sentenced to 12 months in prison and fined 2 million ringgit (S$662,100), with the judge allowing a stay of execution pending appeal. ....
