High school seniors who haven t passed the requisite standardized tests to graduate could have an easier time sidestepping that requirement under a bill still pending at the Legislature. Under current rules, a high school senior who has failed up to two of five end-of-course State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness but has passed all classes and fulfilled other requirements can graduate as long as a committee made up of the student s teacher, the lead instructor for the subject, principal and parents gives unanimous consent. House Bill 999 would allow a student who failed as many as five exams to petition a graduation committee. Each failed exam would require a separate petition. ....
